Rami’s Huskies is a truly local family business, with a story that began back in 1996 when Rami got his first sled dogs. During the early years, he worked with his dogs as a freelancer until the company was officially established in 2001. Rami has lived his entire life in the village of Kallo, about 25 km from Ylläsjärvi, 40 km from Äkäslompolo, and 60 km from Levi. In 2021, Rami’s Huskies was awarded both Company of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year among more than 800 businesses in Kittilä.
Previously, the company’s husky services were located elsewhere, but now, for the first time, the operation has been built at our own home base – the very place where the dogs live and everyday life happens. Our address is Ruonanmaantie 25, 99120 Kallo – This new environment offers a peaceful and authentic starting point for husky safaris, and both the yard area and kennel have been comprehensively developed to meet the expectations of today’s customers.
Arctic sled dogs – perfectly suited to Lapland’s conditions
For us, it is important to work with Arctic sled dogs that are exceptionally well suited to the demanding winter conditions of Lapland. Their thick undercoat and strong motivation to work make them reliable partners for dog sledding adventures.
The dogs are friendly and affectionate, and after the safari, guests have the chance to spend time getting to know them better – for many, this is one of the highlights of the experience.
A new concept: calmer and more private husky safaris
The break in operations brought many positive things. It gave us time to pause, reflect, and make room for new ideas. Now, in January 2027, we will relaunch with a renewed concept that also returns to our roots – guided by the idea that “small is beautiful.” The renewed concept emphasizes:
small group sizes and privacy
offering an authentic experience in Lapland’s nature
close interaction with both the dogs and the guide
Group sizes are limited to 4–6 people so that every guest can enjoy a peaceful and personal experience.
14–15 km husky safari near Ylläs in stunning scenery
On our 14–15 km safari, we travel by dog sled through the beautiful and varied landscapes of Lapland.
The route is suitable for both first-time visitors and more experienced travellers. After driving instructions, we set off with Rami as our guide. Each sled is shared by two people, and halfway through the route there is an opportunity to switch drivers. If the group has an odd number of participants, one person will be able to drive their own sled.
After the excursion, the dogs are rewarded with strokes and thanks, after which we move to a traditional hut to warm up. There, we share stories over a hot drink and a freshly baked bun – a moment where all hurry fades away and the silence of Lapland can be felt especially strongly. The total duration of the programme is approximately 2.5 hours.
